EPW - Jno Bayley, London, gold repoussé verge fusee quarter-hour repeater, 50mm, 18-22K gold OF pair cases pierced for sound transmission, outer with classical repoussé scene to rear depicting four figures at a table, outer with casemaker's marking in cameo that possibly reads "I B," inner with foliate scrolling around perimeter and a grotesque mask at 6, removal of bell from inner reveals London date letter for 1736, white enamel dial, slide at 7 for dumb repeat function, gold beetle and poker hands, KWKS, verge escapement, diamond endstone, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock with grotesque mask at its neck, silver locking dust-cap, no visible s#. Gross weight of assembled watch 80.6 dwt (125.4 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking but when hands are attempted to be set in either direction they reach a firm stopping point and watch stops running when hands reach this point in clockwise direction, repeat function is frequently correct within hands range of motion but occasionally there is an omission of final quarter-hour strike, dumb repeat functions when slide is held, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some fine scratches; dial with perimeter hl between 6 and 7:30, fine scratch at 7:30; excellent hands; outer case shows hardly any wear, small shallow dent with associated very small fine surface fracture above leftmost figure's head, superb engraving detail with strong detail even among high areas of repoussé design, button latch good; inner case shows very little wear, no dents or dings, good engraving detail; bow pivots freely; domed glass crystal with scratch toward upper right perimeter.
